Books for Cooks

Books for Cooks in London’s Notting Hill was founded in 1983 by Heidi Lascelles a very forward thinking lady, who guessed the enormous role that food was to play in our lives. Writer Celia Brooks recommended me for the role of Books for Cooks cook after I assisted her in Divertimenti cooking school. BFC was a family and where I first tried my hand at cooking for large numbers and teaching. Eric and Rosie were fabulous mentors and the structure of shopping locally every morning and cooking everything from scratch from different cookbooks taught me so much about real, authentic food. Everyday at BFC was different because we were always trying new things.

Cocina Cayena

I taught several classes in Cayena in Madrid from Mexican to Dim Sum. I also collaborated in their corporate team building cooking events and taught Spanish food to foreigners. At Cayena I also ran the Christmas cookie children’s workshops for the City of Madrid, where we taught thousands of children to make cookies using mobile kitchens.

Common Threads

I worked as a Chef Instructor for a number of years in Common Thread teaching Cooking Skills and World Cuisine program at Bucktown C.I.C.S. & St. Vincent de Paul.

Founded by Chef Art Smith and artist Jesus Salgueiro in 2003, Common Threads grew out of the belief that family and food have the power to nurture and strengthen us, to connect us to culture and community, and to teach and excite us about our world.

By sharing the delight of cooking and delicious recipes, in conjunction with practical life-skills in health and nutrition, Common Threads can change lives.

Purple Asparagus

Developed and taught “Healthy Crafts and Eating with Fruit” for Chicago Teachers Union Association.

This course was delivered through Purple Asparagus, the amazing not-for-profit that “through exploration and discovery, Purple Asparagus educates children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet”.
